Summery From Goodreads: Bran Hambric was found locked in a bank vault at six years old, with no memory of his past. For years, he has lived with one of the bankers, wondering why he was left behind- until one night, when he is fourteen, he is suddenly confronted by a maddened creature, speaking of Bran’s true past and trying to kidnap him. Bran finds that he is at the center of a plot which started years before he was even born: the plot of a deadly curse his mother created…and one that her former masters are hunting for him to complete. Haunted by the spirit of his mother’s master and living in a city where magic is illegal, Bran must undo the crimes of his past...if it's not already too late.
When I got this book about a year or so ago on my birthday (Yes My Birthday), I was sorta of, kind of, thirlled to bits. I did a little happy dance and squeeled like the fangirl that I am. I had been looking forward to buying and reading this book since the day I heard about it. Having watched Kaleb Nation's videos and hearing about this book it took 6 years to write. I was amazed. And I was inspired to write. Write. Write. Read some books. Write again. Drink Some Tea. And Continiously Write. And then possibly loose my percious and very small ammount of sanity. But yet my sanity is still kind of here... I think.
And now here I am, a year later, and now I am progressing slowly to the ultimate goal.
Which is a book written with my own original ideas and plots.
But Now I'm here to review a book. More about my writing life later for another post where I can just gush and gush about my stories and characters. Such fun.
So we are introduced to this fourteen year old boy named Bran Hambric, who pretty much appeared in a bank vault one day without any sort of explanation at all. Could it be magic? Or just some sort of twisted and evil fate brought onto the banker who found Bran in the vault, Sewey Wilomas. But just before Bran awakens in a Bank Vault of all places he could have gone, we see a fatal conflict between Bran's mother Emry Hambric(who is a criminal by the way) and a woman who remains unnamed until later in the novel.
There is also this guy Clarence. But you'll find about about Clarence's fate if you read this book.
Now the plot of this book is like watching someone's pathway or destiny be discovered through a course of multiple events(many magical). The theme is choice. And Bran makes choices that affect him in good and bad ways.
I personally think that Kaleb, not only because it took six years to write and plot out and create this book, works very hard on creating the most intresting characters. Like Mr.Rat and his magical stationary. Or Polland the Gnome who does not like taking off his hat at all. And then theres Bran with the Criminal Mother and the unfinished Curse she left behind and those bad guys in black who want Bran (Not in a weird way, I assure you). This author took his time, developing the characters. One point to Kaleb Nation.
Also two of my favorite parts of this Book in the entirity(if that is a real word), is the City of Dunce with it's rather ridiculous laws. Like seriously. The person who finds an Orphan is bound to them until time ends or untill the end of time or whichever comes first. If I was forced against my will without any recongnition of that law, to become an Orphan's parent's. Esspecially if this child is horrible like that Dursley child whose name. The other favorite part is Sewey. I am Team Sewey. He's so funny. I like Sewey.
On a art note, Do you not love the Cover? The Colors are just so..soo... PRETTY. The dark blues and the nighttime atmosphere. It is probably in my top ten favorite covers of all times. And then you have the character Bran, clutching his glowing crescent moon necklace and the bad bald men with the black van trying to corner him. The Cover itself shows that this book is full of action and twists and turns.
I reccomend this book. It is funny and yet serious in that Young Adult Novel Way that only so few can pull off.
Read it. Or an Army of Ten Thousand Gnomes will hunt you down and attack you with Magicks.
p.s. Bran Hambric The Specter Key comes out 10/10/10.
